Series 14: Her Testament Series of a Paranormal Life-Waking Up

Waking up in an unfamiliar place, not knowing how I got there or who put me in the bed, was like waking up in a nightmare.

Kevin was laying on the floor beside the bed, so my next thought was, he must have helped get me home.

I rolled over to sit up on the bed, taking in my surroundings. I realized I was at Kelly’s house but where was Kelly? My mind was in a fog. I couldn’t think straight.

What happened last night? How did I get back to the apartments? What time is it? Where’s Kelly?

It was still dark outside as I stood up. I needed to pee, so I quietly walked out of the bedroom, into the hallway and headed towards the bathroom.

Sitting on the toilet, my mind was racing with thoughts of the night before. Even though I couldn’t recall exactly what I had done, I remembered sitting on the couch watching dark shadows fly around the room, some settling on anyone lost in their drug or alcohol induced state. That thought scared me, enough so that I didn’t want to remember what happened after that.

I decided to just go back into the bedroom and lay down. Maybe I just needed more sleep, then I could remember.

As I turned the light off and opened the bathroom door, I had to blink my eyes to adjust to the dark hallway. I blinked my eyes and then saw a small figure that had swirling dark energy twisting around it as it left Kelly’s bedroom. It dashed from her room, across the hallway, right in front of me and into the wall that led to the bedroom across the hall.

I blinked my eyes again and thought out loud, “What the hell was that?” Suddenly the dark hallway felt lighter, like the darkness was caused by this “thing” moving through the house.

I walked back into Kelly’s bedroom, looked over at the bed and Kelly was laying in the same spot I had just gotten up from. In a soft whisper, I said to myself, “What the heck! She wasn’t there when I got up a few minutes ago!” I was totally confused as I laid back on the bed, crawling in behind Kelly, falling asleep without giving it another thought.

What must have been a few hours later, as the sun was shining through the bedroom window, I woke up, again feeling like my brain was in a fog. Short memories of the night before were flying through my head. I kept thinking, “I don’t know what I did but I don’t think I want to do it again.”

Kelly, Kevin and Mark were already up and sitting in the living room when I walked out of the bedroom.

“Good morning sleepy head.” Kelly said as she patted the couch next to her and motioned for me to sit beside her.

“Good Morning. How long have you been up?” I said as I sat down on the small couch.

“Just a few minutes, how are you feeling? That was a crazy party last night, huh.” She questioned me, even though I know she knew the answer, as she looked how I felt.

Rubbing my head, I replied, “I’m ok, my head is cloudy. What happened last night? How did we get back here?”

“Kevin said his friend James gave us a ride and helped carry us to the bedroom but I don’t remember any of it.” Kelly said as she looked in Kevin’s direction for confirmation.

Kevin nodded his head and said, “That’s how I remember it.”

I tried to manage a smile, “Well I don’t remember much about the party or getting back to the apartments. Thanks for making sure we got home safely, Kevin.”

“Your welcome.” Kevin said as he got up and walked back into the hallway towards the bathroom.

“I guess I need to go home to take a shower and change.”

As if nothing had happened last night, I grabbed my things and headed home. I stepped out of the front door and headed towards my apartment. When I got home, everyone was sitting in the living room.

Mom was the first to say anything, “Hello Sheri, did you have a fun sleepover?”

Feeling guilty, my first thought was what does she know? Do I have that, you lied and stayed out all night look on my face? “Hey, yeah it was fun. What’s going on? Did I miss a family meeting?”

Dad motioned for me to sit down, “We were just getting started, have a seat.”

Looking around the room at all the gloomy faces, I said hello to everyone and took a seat next to my younger sister Angie. I whispered to her, “What’s going on? Did someone die?” “No.” Angie whispered back. “Why? Do you see somebody?”

Giving a little laugh, I said, “No, just looks serious in here.” Then Mom announced, “Well, now that we are all here, I want you girls to congratulate your father. He is getting a promotion and so the company is moving us to Texas.”

In stereo, the four of us yelled, “What? Really? Why?”

“There’s nothing but Cowboys and Cows in Texas. Why Texas?” I cried out, not at all happy that we were moving, yet again.

“There’s more than Cowboys and Cows there.” Dad said, half laughing, “You will love it. You will all get to ride horses and learn how to rope one of them calves. Besides, this is a good move for my career.”

“AUGHHH! All this moving, when will it stop? I’m going to go take a shower.” Stomping out of the living room, I looked at my sisters, they were just as upset as I was, but I knew it didn’t matter. We were moving again.

To be continued…
